Wartortle

UncommonWater

Wartortle combines a Water Gun opening with 97 base HP and equal base defenses of 80. Its physical and special attack factors are close enough that card behavior deserves attention.

Physical and special attacks use different attack factors. Defense and special defense affect the matching incoming damage category; they are not flat percentages of damage blocked. Speed is the game’s base movement value.

Your opening move

DEFAULT LOADOUT

Water Gun

Water · special · Projectile

A piercing jet. Reliable at any range.

The 400-coin Starting move upgrade is bought separately for each partner. It lets you choose a legal non-buff opening; the default remains available. Learning another attack during a run does not automatically change the active slot.

As a single-type Water partner, Wartortle gets ×1.20 damage on damaging Water moves. Normal alternatives and buffs do not inherit that bonus.

Choosing your cards

WHAT TO CHECK FIRST
  • Single-type Water damage receives the 20% bonus. That can help distinguish a typed attack from a Normal alternative.
  • The full pool includes attacks and buffs. A card being available does not mean it can be selected as an opening: the Starting move choice excludes buffs.

Move evolutions below upgrade an attack. They do not mean this partner changes into another Pokémon. For upgrade rules and slot choices, read the move evolution guide.

How strong is Wartortle?

A balanced Water base for a patient run

Wartortle’s equal 80 defenses and closely matched attack factors suit a measured Water route. We would develop one attack and let control improve the movement plan.

Taking damage, pull and regeneration too early can leave every job underdeveloped. A broad pool does not replace attack levels.

ONE MAIN ROUTE FIRST

These are priorities and alternatives, not three attacks you receive or fire together. The selected slot keeps casting; existing projectiles, placed fields and temporary buffs can remain after switching. Bonds let several moves keep casting from one selected group.

A buff cast adds a stack rather than instantly granting the maximum bonus. Refresh it, return to damage before it expires, or combine it with damage in a Bond. It affects your player, not the whole team. Do not pass up a useful damage upgrade just to complete this list.

Main attack first

Water Gun

special · Water

The special default has a clear Power evolution goal.

ScaldLv. 5 Water Gun + Power

Localized control

Whirlpool

special · Water

Pull can organize a nearby group. We would not assume it replaces the main projectile or makes the center safe.

BrineLv. 5 Whirlpool + Synthesis

Personal recovery

Aqua Ring

buff · Water

Give the buff active time deliberately, or combine it with damage after a suitable Bond.

Upgrade order

  1. Keep Water Gun reliable through early levels.
  2. If developing Whirlpool, look for Synthesis instead of assuming Power covers it.
  3. Add regeneration after damage works, and select the correct Bond group if combining moves.

If the cards do not cooperate: Bubble provides a slowing alternative if Whirlpool is unavailable. Commit to its Sprint requirement only when developing that attack.

Who we would pair with Wartortle

CO-OP PAIRINGS TO TRY

We would give Wartortle the control job after its own damage is adequate. A teammate can keep attacking during a planned buff refresh; neither player’s buffs transfer.

Charmeleon can keep projectile damage active while Wartortle tries a localized control route.

Ivysaur can choose homing special damage while Wartortle uses a different pattern. This is a pairing to try, not a recorded best duo.

Kanto pairings to try, not an all-roster co-op ranking or a tested best team. Each player manages their own active slot and buffs. A partner knowing a move does not mean it keeps casting throughout the run.

Small decisions that help

POSITION · SWITCH · UPGRADE
  1. Go around the pull center

The grouped enemies can still hit. Use the area to plan a route, not a place to wait.

  2. Compare the cards too

A 0.01 attack-factor difference is small. Range, cooldown and behavior deserve attention.

  3. Inspect the active group

Before Bonds, the selected slot keeps casting. Existing projectiles, placed fields and temporary buffs may last after a switch, but an inactive slot does not keep recasting them. Recheck the active group after reorganizing.

These are the cards this partner can learn, including its default attack. They are choices, not a loadout you receive at once. An evolution requires the base move at its maximum level and the listed stat card; attack names alone do not imply extra effects such as healing.
