Venusaur

EpicGrassPoison

Venusaur brings 106 base HP, a 1.25 special attack factor and the Grass/Poison card pool. Its default Vine Whip gives you a physical start before you decide which damage route to develop.

Physical and special attacks use different attack factors. Defense and special defense affect the matching incoming damage category; they are not flat percentages of damage blocked. Speed is the game’s base movement value.

Your opening move

DEFAULT LOADOUT

Vine Whip

Grass · physical · Melee

Long-range whips in a wide arc.

The 400-coin Starting move upgrade is bought separately for each partner. It lets you choose a legal non-buff opening; the default remains available. Learning another attack during a run does not automatically change the active slot.

Venusaur has two types and does not receive the single-type ×1.20 damage bonus.

Choosing your cards

WHAT TO CHECK FIRST
  • Its 100 special defense is higher than its 83 defense. That difference affects incoming damage categories, rather than making every hit equally safe.
  • If you have bought its Starting move upgrade, a legal special attack can match its stronger attack factor from the opening. The unlock is purchased separately for this partner.

Move evolutions below upgrade an attack. They do not mean this partner changes into another Pokémon. For upgrade rules and slot choices, read the move evolution guide.

How strong is Venusaur?

B · EDITORIAL SOLO GRADE

Flexible Grass/Poison with an early decision to make

We would choose Venusaur for 106 HP, special options and a familiar Vine Whip start. Its appeal is a choice of coherent routes, rather than proof it outdamages the leading ranged partners.

Dual typing brings no single-type bonus. Collecting Grass and Poison attacks is easy; developing one reliable active slot is the more useful decision.

ONE MAIN ROUTE FIRST

These are priorities and alternatives, not three attacks you receive or fire together. The selected slot keeps casting; existing projectiles, placed fields and temporary buffs can remain after switching. Bonds let several moves keep casting from one selected group.

A buff cast adds a stack rather than instantly granting the maximum bonus. Refresh it, return to damage before it expires, or combine it with damage in a Bond. It affects your player, not the whole team. Do not pass up a useful damage upgrade just to complete this list.

Special start to try

Energy Ball

special · Grass

With the start upgrade unlocked, this uses the 1.25 special factor and tracks targets. Synthesis supports its evolution.

Giga DrainLv. 5 Energy Ball + Synthesis

Poison alternative

Sludge

special · Poison

Sludge shares special scaling and applies poison. Before Bonds, treat it as an alternative main attack rather than expecting it beside Energy Ball.

Sludge BombLv. 5 Sludge + Power

Later support

Nasty Plot

buff · Normal

Refresh this temporary special buff and return to damage, or put it in a suitable active Bond.

Upgrade order

  1. Without the start unlock, keep levelling Vine Whip.
  2. On an Energy Ball route, develop damage and look for Synthesis.
  3. Add a second job once the main attack works; use a Bond for simultaneous moves.

If the cards do not cooperate: The physical whip route is coherent too: take Power and physical scaling. It is better than purchasing special buffs for a physical-only active slot.

Who we would pair with Venusaur

CO-OP PAIRINGS TO TRY

We would start with reliable damage on each player, then let one add control. Aqua Ring on a Water teammate is personal regeneration, not a heal for Venusaur.

Charizard has a special projectile opening beside Venusaur’s close default. If both start at range, discuss who later covers nearby enemies.

Blastoise can add slowing coverage while Venusaur stays on its Grass or Poison damage plan.

Kanto pairings to try, not an all-roster co-op ranking or a tested best team. Each player manages their own active slot and buffs. A partner knowing a move does not mean it keeps casting throughout the run.

Small decisions that help

POSITION · SWITCH · UPGRADE
  1. Read the category

A 1.25 special factor does not turn the default Vine Whip into a special attack.

  2. Do not infer sustain from names

Neither Grass Knot nor Energy Ball’s named Giga Drain evolution should be assumed to heal from its title.

  3. Keep combinations online deliberately

Learning two attacks is not enough to keep both firing. Form the relevant Bond and select that active group.

These are the cards this partner can learn, including its default attack. They are choices, not a loadout you receive at once. An evolution requires the base move at its maximum level and the listed stat card; attack names alone do not imply extra effects such as healing.
